November 3rd Club meeting

The November meeting of the Nashua Area Radio Club was called to order at 7:07 PM by chairman, John Gaffey, WS1E. Winners of the traditional Classie Junque drawing were the husband and wife team of Henry, K1CII and Pauline Wells, KA1LDF. Attendee introductions followed.

Jack Warren, WB4MDC, introduced John, WS1E who presented the new FCC RF radiation limits in effect January 1st, 1998.

Treasurer, George Fisher, WA1DEI reported a balance of $2814.66. The report was accepted as presented on a motion by Mary Jane, WA4WIJ and seconded by Ken, KE1GI. The motion carried.

Membership coordinator, Ed Deichler, K2TE reported a total of 126 active members. He noted that we have gained several new members during the year.

Activities coordinator, Brooks Tanner, KC1PD reminded the attendees that the Christmas Banquet is to be held on December 6, at 7:00PM, at the Horse Pond Fish and Game Club off of Broad Street in Nashua. The tickets are $7 for adults and $2.50 for children under 12 years of age. Several door prizes will be available to lucky club members. The traditional “Yankee Swap” will again entertain all who attend and bring a gift. Yankee Swap participants are reminded to bring a gift for “him” or “her” or for “both”. The cost of such gifts should not exceed $10. Parents with children too young to participate in the Yankee Swap are encouraged to provide a gift bearing the child’s name for distribution. Brooks also noted that the club owns a Palomar Engineering Receiver Noise Bridge and a Vibroplex Bug. These items are to be auctioned off via silent bid. The bidding rules will be published in the club bulletin. He also announced the availability of 1996 tee shirts and advised that the design for the new shirts has been finalized and will be ordered. No date was given on availability.

Bob Fyfe, KD1AW announced the club’s Novice/Technician licensing class is going well. He’s looking for some on-the-air contacts during the Wednesday night class to give the students a feel for what a real two-way contact is like. Bob feels another class should be started after the new year with “graduation” just before Field Day.

Jack Warren, WB4MDC announced the program for December will be the club awards presentation and January will be “homebrew” night where everyone can show the other attendees their pet projects.

Old business was discussed. The property trailer is just about ready for the club to assume ownership. The trailer has to be towed to the proposed storage location at a cost of $250. It was moved and seconded by Jim, WW1Y and Ken, KE1GI, respectively, that the club allot $250 for the towing fee. The motion carried. The city of Nashua has given the club access to a parking location.

New business was brought to the attendee’s attention. Fletch Seagroves, N1MEO announced the nominations for the 1998 calendar year for board of directors. Mike Graham, NE1V was nominated by Dave, N1SUE and seconded by Mary Jane, WA4WIJ for Chairman. Others include, Vice Chairman, Bob Fyfe, KD1AW, Secretary, Don Dillaby, KA1GOZ, Treasurer, George Fisher, WA1DEI, and Ron Martin, NU1U, Activities, K2TE, Membership, Tracy Banks, N1WIR, and Programs, Jack Warren, WB4MDC. Nominations were closed on a motion by Rich, W1HZN, seconded by Ernie Cote, NO1V. The motion carried.

Treasurer, George Fisher, WA1DEI presented a change to the 1998 budget. The amount budgeted for Field Day was increased from $925 to $1075. This increase is to be paid for by an change in the advertising income entry. This entry was changed from $225 to $375.

Jim Heedles, WW1Y, announced the upcoming VE session December 13, at 9:00 AM in the First Church of Nashua.

On a motion by Ken, KE1GI, seconded by Jim, WW1Y, the meeting was adjourned at 8:20 PM. The motion carried.
