Minutes from the August 25th Executive
Board meeting and the September 8th Club Meeting

August 25th Bored meeting

President John, WS1E, called the August meeting of the Nashua Area Radio Club bored of directors to order at 7:35PM.

Under correspondence, Secretary Don, KA1GOZ, read a letter from Derry hams concerning proposed zoning restrictions in the town relative to communications towers. The proposed ordinance did not exempt amateur radio towers from its provisions. The Derry group was asking support from other hams in the state. On a motion by George, WA1DEI, seconded by Don, KA1GOZ, the secretary’s report was accepted as published in the bulletin.

Treasurer George reported a balance of $2,952.59. On a motion by Don, seconded by Bob, KD1AW, the treasurer’s report was accepted as presented.

There being no membership or activity coordinators in attendance, there were no reports. On training, president of vice, Bob, KD1AW, announced a Novice/Technician class was to begin Oct. 1 at the Chandler Memorial Library and Ethnic Center. Programs coordinator, Jack, WB4MDC, announced that Rich, WB2OCR, was the September club meeting speaker, discussing nuclear magnetic resonance. For October, Section Emergency Coordinator Rich Force, WB1ASL, is scheduled to present a program on ARES/RACES.

Under old business, the question of Field Day storage was brought up. A 40-foot box trailer may be donated, however, the details remain to be worked out. One of the issues involved is applying for and receiving a federal non-profit organization designation from the IRS. Final location of the trailer, if it is acquired is to be worked out with the Nashua Emergency Preparedness Dept. by Don, KA1GOZ. On the question of the Field Day site for next year there was no new information.

There being no additional business, Don moved and Jack seconded a motion to adjourn.

September 8th Club meeting

Chairman, John Gaffey, WS1E, brought the September meeting of the Nashua Area Radio Club to order. After the chairman’s welcome address, the traditional Classie Junque prizes were awarded to a total of 10 individuals after which personal introductions were given.

Jack Warren, WB4MDC, introduced Rich Netherby, WB2OCR who presented a program on nuclear magnetic resonance to the attendees.

The secretary’s report was not available due to the absence of secretary, Don Dillaby, KA1GOZ.

John, WS1E gave an abbreviated treasurer’s report due to the absence of treasurer, George Fisher, WA1DEI.

Jim Heedles, WW1Y, NARC editor-in- chief/publisher, and NARC web master reported an active club membership of 131 persons. A more comprehensive report was not available from membership committee chairman, Ed Deichler, K2TE, due to his absence.

Activities chairman, Brooks Tanner, KC1PD announced the annual NARC picnic to be held on September 13 at the Field Day site in Hollis, NH, beginning at noon with a walking transmitter hunt.

Bob Fyfe, KD1AW announced the club’s Novice/Technician class. Details are available in the latest newsletter.

Jack Warren, WB4MDC gave a rundown on up-coming programs for the remainder of the year, including the annual club awards in December.

Old business was discussed. This included the continuing hunt for a new storage location for the club’s field day hardware and a new location for Field Day operations. The city of Nashua has indicated a willingness to allow the club access to a city location for parking a trailer after the club acquires one.

The FCC has released a new version of the OET bulletin which deals with RF radiation exposure with respect to Amateur Radio. There was no new business.

Jim, WW1Y, VE session leader announced two upcoming examination sessions. One on September 13 at First Church, Nashua and October 4 at the Hosstraders Hamfest in Rochester, NH.

Brooks, KC1PD announced the availability of Field Day T-shirts for purchase.

Don Haney, KA1T, ARRL Vice Director, New England Division, presented an update on ARRL membership, new ham activity, and possible changes in frequency allocations.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:43PM.
