Star Party!

Map to ATMoB
Directions to ATMoB
This is the last call for the October Star Party, where we all get a chance (weather permitting) to look to the heavens under the guidance of some really knowledgeable folks. We’ve been graciously invited by the Amateur Telescope Makers of Boston (ATM) to view the night-time sky through some wonderful instruments, including a huge 17” Dobsonian telescope (or bring your own!). The primary date is Thursday, October 21 from 7:00 to 10:00 P.M. The secondary date in case of clouds is October 28. Jupiter and Saturn will be visible.

The ATM clubhouse is on the grounds of the MIT Haystack observatory which features the “walk in” power supply that the radio club visited previously. Although a tour will not be available, the clubhouse will be open with demonstrations of mirror making.

To reach the ATMoB clubhouse, drive down Rte 3 to the Rte 40 exit (Exit 33). Go Westbound for about 6 miles until you see the MIT sign shortly after you enter the town of Groton. Turn right and proceed ½ mile up the access road. The ATMoB clubhouse is the white farmhouse on the left. The ATM’s favorite local pizza is from the Forge Village Pizza a few miles away; stay tuned for announcements from the Pizza Queen as we get closer to that date.

Christmas Party

“Ho Ho Ho!” (or for some, “Oy Oy Oy!”). Here’s an update on this year’s upcoming Christmas Party. It’s being held on the first Saturday in December; this year it’s December 4th. Also as in the past it’s being held at the Horse Pond Fish and Game Club, directions will be posted in a future bulletin.

Featured will be “semi-live” music, pot luck dinner, an all-new “Wacky Gift Swap”, with club-provided soft drinks, door prizes (for members only), and a delicious honey ham.

The tickets are on sale NOW, and may be purchased from any NARC board member, or at the door. Ticket prices are $8 per adult, $4 for children 12 or under. Please sign up to bring a main dish, dessert, salad, or appetizer) when you buy your ticket.

Also, bring a wrapped gift for the swap. $10 nominal price limit, gag gifts are encouraged. If you are bringing a child who will be disappointed by what they do or don’t get, be sure to bring a wrapped gift for them, and PUT THEIR NAME ON IT!

The party starts at 7 PM, runs approx. to 11 PM. Dress is casual, parking is provided.

Hope to see you there!

Future activities: Ideas please...

I’m interested in hearing what you’d like, particularly if you’re willing to assist in making it happen. I’m open to any ideas, but from experience it’s best if there’s food involved in it somewhere. Let me know, and we’ll make it happen.
