“Running a Marathon, Amateur Style”

There exists an elite group of amateurs who spend countless hours preparing and then stay up all weekend functioning with little or no sleep. Occasionally they work in groups and take shifts. They sometimes travel to remote and rare destinations solely to operate an event (may even bring the spouse and kids along)! These amateurs spare no expense when it comes to furnishing their shacks. One hundred foot towers, multiple yagis and maximum legal power are the norm. Some even sacrifice air conditioning for the ability to satisfy the power requirements for their amplifier! Find out what drives these devoted individuals by tuning into May’s program. Ray Faucher, KB1SO, leads the way in his presentation on Amateur Radio contesting. He will discuss what contesting is and the reason it exists; elaborating on the types of events, rules, equipment, preparation time and other details involved. Whether your fancy is QRP, RTTY, CW, phone or any other mode, there is something for everyone.

A special thanks and appreciation to April’s guest speaker Don Hornbeck, K1EER. If you missed this one, Don talked about the history and technical aspects of power supply design. He passed around tiny switching supplies and showed us overheads of massive power systems that he designed. Everyone attending enjoyed his presentation.

You don’t have to be a member of the club to share in the fun. Join us at the Nashua Public Library for this meeting of the Nashua Area Radio Club.

Your favorite topics make next month’s program!! Tell me about them.

See you at the meeting! de Gary, W1GRY
