Minutes from the August 31st Executive
Board meeting and the September 14th Club Meeting

August 31st Bored meeting

President Mike, K7CTW, called the August meeting of the Nashua Area Radio Club Bored of Directors to order at 7:35 PM.

The minutes of the July Bored meeting were amended to include discussion of a deadline for submission of Field Day bills and that treasurer George, WA1DEI, was directed to put a notice in the NARC Bulletin announcing that Field Day bills were due Sept. 30. On a motion by Bob, KD1AW, seconded by George, WA1DEI, the minutes of the July meeting, as amended, were accepted. Treasurer George, WA1DEI, reported that the club balance stood at $3,551.96. Field Day expenses thus far were $833.25, and income was $936.

Membership coordinator Tracy, N1WIR, reported 158 members in good standing.

Ed, K2TE, activities coordinator, reported the tour of New Boston Air Force Station was set for Sept. 10. Also, the Marconi Museum was looking for 4 or 5 volunteers for Bedford Old Home Day, Sept. 19. The club Christmas party is set for Dec. 5 at the Horse Pond Fish and Game Club.

Under training, president of vice and training coordinator Bob, KD1AW, reported Wayne Mueller was possibly going to be the instructor for the novice/technician class scheduled to begin tentatively Sept. 16. He noted an Elmer program was being developed to assist those interested in license upgrades.

Program coordinator Jack, WB4MDC, announced the speaker for the September club meeting would be Chuck Wyrick, manager of the Salem HRO store. October’s meeting will feature a panel of “experts” who will field questions submitted by members relating to amateur radio. The November program currently is open, possibly John Dorr would be the speaker. He also requested recommendations for “awards” as soon as possible in preparation for the December “Awards Night” program.

Don, KA1GOZ, ARES EC, had no report.

Under old business, Mark, N1ZYZ, GOTAP coordinator, reported to the board that his out-of-pocket expenses for the program amounted to approximately $14 to $16 over the six-month period, and that he did not wish to be reimbursed. No action was taken on the tabled motion to reimburse expenses for GOTAP. President Mike will address the issue at the club meeting.

Under new business, treasurer George reported that he had received the last of the Field Day Bills.

President Mike introduced several proposed changes to the club constitution and by-laws. On a motion by Ed, K2TE, seconded by Tracy, N1WIR, The constitution, Article II - Governing Body, Section 2 - The members of the Executive Committee of this club shall be elected to an office for a term of one year by simple majority ballot of the members present at the December regular meeting, would be amended as follows:

Article II - Governing Body, Section 2, - The members of the Executive Committee of this club shall be elected to an office for a term of two years by simple majority ballot of the members present at the December regular meeting. To promote and enhance continuity, terms for each office shall be staggered in accordance with the following scheduled: the offices of XXX, YYY and ZZZ shall be balloted upon at the December meeting of even-numbered years; the offices of AAA, BBB, CCC and DDD shall be balloted upon at the December meeting of odd-numbered years.”

In proposing the changes, Mike suggested it would be necessary for a one-time phase-in period to allow for election of three officers for a one-year term with the two-year terms to follow. Following considerable discussion, Bob, KD1AW, moved to table the motion, seconded by George, WA1DEI. The motion to table was carried.

Mike announced there were two volunteers and himself making up this year’s nominating committee. Volunteers are: Mark, N1ZYZ, and John, W1SU.

On a motion by KA1GOZ, seconded by WB4MDC, the meeting was adjourned.

September 14th Club meeting

President Mike, K7CTW, opened the September 14 meeting of the Nashua Area Radio Club with the rarely on-time Classie Junque drawing. Winners (?) included: N1ZYY, Andrew, KA1GOZ, W8KKU, W1GRY, N1ZYZ, WW1Y and WB4MDC. The drawing was followed by member introductions.

Program coordinator Jack, WB4MDC, introduced Chuck Wyrick, KM4MZ, manager of the Ham Radio Outlet store in Salem, who discussed various trends in ham radio and ham radio equipment.

Following the presentation, president Mike opened the business meeting with a call for the secretary’s report. On a motion by Mark, N1ZYZ, seconded by N1ZYY, the secretary’s report of the August club meeting was accepted as published in the NARC Bull. The motion carried.

Treasurer George, WA1DEI, reported a club balance of $3,428.17. On a motion by Rich, W1HZN, seconded by Tracy, N1WIR, the treasurer’s report was accepted as presented.

Membership coordinator Tracy, N1WIR, reported 160 members in good standing.

Activities coordinator Ed, K2TE, announced that the planned tour of the New Boston Air Force Station was canceled due to increased security requirements following the U.S. Embassy bombings in Africa. He announced he was trying to arrange a tour of the Haystack Observatory in Westford, MA. The club Christmas party is set for Dec. 5, and he will have tickets available at the October club meeting. He also has 1996 and 1997 Field Day T-shirts at two-for $10.

President of vice and training coordinator, Bob, KD1AW, reported that the novice/technician class is set to begin next Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Chandler Memorial Library and Ethnic Center. Instructor is Wayne Mueller, W1QC. Bob also announced he was working on a tutoring system for those wishing to upgrade. Chuck, KM4MZ, offered to conduct classes/seminars on operating at the HRO store after normal business hours.

Programs coordinator Jack, WB4MDC, announced the October meeting would be “Stump the Experts,” a panel of club members who will field questions relating to amateur radio. For November, Gary, W1GRY, was arranging for a program by WF1B on RTTY.

Mark, N1ZYZ, GOTAP coordinator, noted that the program was about to end and he was unsure as to whether the ARRL planned to continue it or expand it.

Under old business, president Mike brought up the GOTAP reimbursement, noting that Mark, GOTAP coordinator declined reimbursement for this year. Mike suggested including a line item in the 99 budget of $50 for GOTAP, but it was suggested that could be addressed at the budget meeting.

Under new business, Jim,WW1Y, NARC Bull editor-in-chief, said he has received a request for publishing the club membership list on the club web page. The list would not include detailed data, and anyone not wishing to be listed should contact him. He will publish the list starting November 1st.

Mark, N1ZYZ, asked about including a notice section in the club newsletter, after some discussion, the consensus was to continue with notices as they are.

Jack noted that ARRL Lab staff member Zack Lowe was hospitalized, with a stroke, but was accepting e-mail and QSL cards. Those who know him are urged to send e- mail or cards to Zack at ARRL HQ. A drawing of a discount prize from HRO was won by Marc, KB1DFE.

The meeting was adjourned on a motion by N1ZYZ, seconded by N1HAJ.
