Get On The Air Program

Back to Work

In case you didn’t notice, I took August off and didn’t write a column. But now it is time to get back into the swing of things. I have received a list of new candidates from the ARRL and I am busy contacting them.

I am also talking with the ARRL to determine if the program will continue. Then we need to determine what NARC should do. I feel that while the club has traditionally done many of the GOTAP functions, we need to continue with GOTAP either with the ARRL or on our own.

I would like to think that the program is making a difference in helping some of the new hams get on the air as well as improving the visibility, image and membership of the club. While I realize that we won’t be able to help every new ham and get them into the club, I hope that the program has had some value.

Please let me know what you think. Should we continue with this program ? Has it been beneficial to you ? Has it helped the club ? What changes can we make in the program to improve it ? If you have been GOTAPed, have I followed up and been of assistance ? What more can we do ?

At the Sept. NARC meeting, Chuck, KM4NZ, from HRO mentioned that he would like to start a program with us that would allow new hams to go into HRO at night and learn “the practical side” of operating a ham station. I am following up with Chuck and will be sure to announce when this program starts.

Monthly Spiels

GOTAP is a program that the ARRL has put together in order to help new and existing hams get on the air and stay in the hobby. If you are finding it difficult to get on the air please contact me and I’ll do my best to have NARC help you get up an running. If you know anyone who needs GOTAP help have them contact me or get me their names. Over the summer, I stopped running the code practice on 28.360 MHz. Let me know if you would like to participate in this and we can set up a schedule.

New Hams

Please welcome the following folks and give an extra special greeting if you hear them.
