NARC on the Big Screen

Former NARC member Tom Landry, KA1IPD, plays an extra in Tom Hanks new HBO series, “From The Earth To The Moon”. Tom (Landry, not Hanks), formerly from Nashua, now lives in central Florida, takes up a new occupation as a movie & TV extra! The series was filmed in the Orlando area, including the Kennedy space center, the old Navy training center, and Disney MGM studios.

Being an movie extra you become the background for the scene whether it is a large crowd or a single person. For this series Tom has played several parts throughout the 13 episodes, from a fire investigator for the Apollo 1 episode, to a reporter covering the splashdown of 13.

Throughout the eight plus months of production everybody in the cast and crew put in many long days and nights. This is not the type of job for those who like nice 9 to 5 workdays! Even with 18+ hour days Tom did manage to work some 2 meter simplex for field day.

Tom wishes the club best of luck in Field Day 98. He will try to operate 15 meter QRP on FD so let's look for him.
