Minutes from the January 26th Executive
Board meeting and the February 2nd Club Meeting

January 26th Bored meeting

President Mike, NE1V, called the January meeting of the Nashua Area Radio Club board of directors to order at 7:30 PM.

On a motion by Jack, WB4MDC, seconded by Ed, K2TE, the minutes of the previous meeting were accepted as printed.

There was no treasurer’s report.

Ed, K2TE, activities coordinator, detailed several activities he is working on including: a tour of Cushcraft possibly on some Pizza Night in March; a cross-country ski and sliding event; a Halloween party; and the Christmas party.

Under training, president of vice Bob, KD1AW, reported Mike, NE1V, was planning to start a code practice session next Tuesday evening on the 147.045 repeater. He said he was also developing a novice/technician course, possibly starting in April and was looking at a possible General and above upgrade class.

Programs coordinator Jack, WB4MDC, reported the February program will be Project Night, delayed because of the cancellation of December’s club meeting. March will be Brooks Tanner, KC1PD, who will discuss the future of storage media technology. In April, Mike, NE1V, will present an introduction to digital communications.

In the ARES./RACES area, Don, KA1GOZ, EC, E-Hills, reported he had appointed Don Grant, N1UBD, as AEC for Merrimack.

Under old business, Mike reported arrangements had been finalized for moving the UPS-donated storage trailer to the Nashua Waste Water Treatment Facility.

On the issue of the Field Day site, there has been no change in the status and it is expected to be in Hollis this year.

A question about the club web site was brought up. Funding for the acquisition of the domain name, n1fd.org, was approved by the board of directors last year, but no action has been taken.

On a motion by Bob, KD1AW, seconded by Tracy, N1WIR, the question of participation in the GOTAP program was removed from the table. After some discussion, Bob moved that the concept of GOTAP would be brought to the February club meeting and if approved, that club participation would be coordinated by someone other than a member of the board. The motion, seconded by Tracy, carried.

Under new business, Jack recommended that a list of names of those who will be authorized to enter the equipment storage trailer be developed and left with the personnel at the Nashua Waste Water Treatment Facility.

On another issue, Jack noted that the price of club jackets has changed and the change should be indicated in the jacket order form in the bulletin.

On a motion by Don, KA1GOZ, seconded by Ed, K2TE, the meeting was adjourned.

February 2nd Club meeting

President Mike, NE1V, called the February meeting of the Nashua Area Radio Club to order. The first order of business was the Classie Junque drawing which was won by Greg, KE1E. After introductions, president Mike noted the NH QSO party was coming up this weekend and urged members to participate.

Secretary, Don, KA1GOZ, then presented CD-ROMs of the 1995 and 1996 issues of ARRL publications to Bob Frost, assistant director of the Nashua Public Library for inclusion in the library’s collection.

Jack, WB4MDC, program coordinator, then called for participants in the Project Night program. Rich, W1HZN, presented a piece on dueling transformers. That was followed by Mary Jane, WA4WIJ, and her computer- designed calendar of her grandson’s first year. Matt, N1ZYY, with a little help from Mike, presented his Radio Alphabet Book which he had developed as a school project around amateur radio. Julie Grant described the project she and her mother, Joy, were working on, making dolls that look like babies. Bob, KD1AW, discussed his 2m linear amplifier that uses vacuum tubes.

He was followed by Ed, K2TE, and his presentation on a two-element 80-meter quad antenna. John WB1HBW, showed his microphone modifications and amplifier to make an old mike work with a newer rig as well as his in process 40-meter QRP rig.

Jack, WB4MDC, discussed his test fixture for VHF power modules and a voice recording device available at Radio Shack.

Following the project presentation, Colleen, N1HAJ, presented Ernie, NO1V, with a Bert & Ernie T-shirt and certificate.

President Mike than called the business portion of the meeting to order. On a motion by Rich, W1HZN, seconded by Rich, WB2OCR, the secretary’s report of the previous meeting was accepted as published.

Treasurer George, WA1DEI, presented the 1997 financial summary followed by the monthly balance which stood at $2,230.81. The report was accepted as presented on a motion by WW1Y, seconded by N1HAJ.

Membership coordinator Tracy, N1WIR, reported there were 138 members. Activities coordinator Ed, K2TE, reported a cross- country ski and sliding event was planned for Feb. 14 at the Field Day site in Hollis. A tour of the Cushcraft plant is set for March 12, and will be on a Pizza Night., beginning at 7 p.m. He also noted he has the new club Field Day T-shirts available. President of Vice, Bob, KD1AW, reports he is considering a possible theory class for upgrades to General, Advanced and Extra . Also, Mike, NE1V, will be running the CW training on the 147.045 repeater.

Program coordinator Jack, reported the March program will feature Brooks, KC1PD, and the future of magnetic media storage. April will be Mike, NE1V, who will present an introduction to digital modes.

President Mike noted that NHARA president and Section Affiliated Club Coordinator, Dan Saliga, NA1E, was in attendance, and Dan greeted club members.

On ARES/RACES, Don, KA1GOZ, EC, E- Hills, reported the appointment of Don, N1UBD, as the AEC for the town of Merrimack. He also noted the Nashua Area Emergency Net meets Tuesday evenings at 8 p.m. on the 147.045 repeater.

Under old business, president Mike presented the outline of the GOTAP program to the membership. It was noted that the board of directors recommended participation in the program, however, a board member would not be directing the club’s participation. A volunteer from the membership was needed. Brian King, KA1FQT, moved the club participate in GOTAP. The motion was seconded by Al, N1FIK, and carried. N1ZYZ, Mark Wagner, volunteered to direct the club program.

In other business, Mike, NE1V, noted the storage trailer has been moved and is now at the Nashua Waste Water Treatment Facility.

Jim, WW1Y, VE coordinator for the club, announced the upcoming VE sessions scheduled for the area.
