It was the best of scores,
It was the worst of scores.

We did it again!

Highest score overall in Field Day for the THIRD year in a row. By a large margin even. And once again, we came in last in the state according to our esteemed section manager. At least this year that means seventh place, not eleventh. I wonder if we’ll get another plaque? And will our name even be spelt right?

November 1997 QST Cover And something even more impressive; we actually got a picture in QST. Well, more accurately on QST. That 100 foot tower at sunset is none other than the tower on Hurricane Hill. The club’s web site (URL is http://www.mv.com/ipusers/ww1y/narc) was also mentioned on the inside cover. The original photo, taken by WW1Y’s XYL, Maureen(no call yet) is available on the web.

I want to thank everyone who helped make Field Day 1997 successful. And by successful I don’t just mean high score. The emergency preparedness training and just plain fun are more important than overall score. This may have been the last year for field day at the Hollis site. That makes it even more important next year that people participate. A new site will challenge our problem solving abilities. We’d solved all the tough ones at Buzz’s place. And our first major challenge is to find a new site. Any ideas, let me know.

The top finishers this year were:

Once again, absolutely fabulous T-shirts will be available announcing our pride to the world. The color for this year, apparently dictated by someone’s mother, will be gold with black letters. Price is TBD but most likely will be the same $15 they’ve been in the past.
