Minutes from the September 29th Executive
Board meeting and the October 6th Club Meeting

September 29th Bored meeting

President John, WS1E, called the September meeting of the Nashua Area Radio Club bored of directors to order at 7:37 PM.

Secretary Don, KA1GOZ, noted that in the minutes of the September club meeting published in the Oct. NARC Bulletin, it was incorrectly stated that the report was not available. Those minutes were published in the September NARC Bulletin.

The secretary’s report of the previous bored meeting was accepted as published. Treasurer George, WA1DEI, reported a club balance of $2,847.28. On a motion by Don, KA1GOZ, seconded by Jack, WB4MDC, the treasurer’s report was accepted as read. Membership coordinator Ed, K2TE, reported there were 115 active members currently. Activities coordinator Brooks, KC1PD, noted the next upcoming activity was the club Christmas party, Dec. 6.

President of vice, Bob, KD1AW, reported the Novice/No-code Technician class was to get underway with 16 participants signed up.

Programs coordinator Jack, WB4MDC, reported the October club program would be ARES/RACES with SEC Rich Force, WB1ASL. The November program will be prez John, WS1E, concerning Operations of an Excited Transmitter (OET) - actually the FCC’s new guidelines concerning radiation exposure. December’s program will be awards and elections.

On the issue of Field Day/club equipment storage, president John, WS1E, announced that moving day, the day to remove the equipment from the Hollis Hilton, would be the third weekend in October. Work was moving forward concerning the acquisition of a 40-foot box trailer as well as a storage location. Disposal of two pieces of equipment generously donated by Hector, - a Palomar noise bridge and a Vibroplex “bug” was discussed. The decision was made to auction them off using sealed bids. Under new business, Treasurer George, WA1DEI, outlined the proposed 1998 club budget. President John recommended the addition of $482 for a new set of Field Day tee-shirts which was not included. On a motion by Don, KA1GOZ, seconded by Jack, WB4MDC, the proposed budget was approved for presentation to the full club.

President John brought up a note he received from director of vice for the New England Division, Don, KA1T, concerning the GOTAP program he and Division Director Tom Frenaye were planning. On a motion by Don, KA1GOZ, seconded by Bob, KD1AW, the issue was tabled. John reported that a proposal has been made to Jim, WW1Y, which he has forwarded to the board, for the acquisition of an Internet domain name for the club, n1fd.org. The cost would be $100 for the first two years.

On a motion by Don, seconded by Ed, K2TE, the meeting was adjourned.

October 6th Club meeting

The October meeting of the Nashua Area Radio Club was called to order by president John., WS1E. The program began with the traditional Classie Junque drawing. Winners included: Jim, WW1Y; Rich, WB1ASL; Ed, WB1N; Gary, W1GRY; Al, W1JOF; and of course Dave, N1SUE. Introduction of members followed.

Don, KA1GOZ, Emergency Coordinator (EC) for Eastern-Hillsborough County, introduced New Hampshire’s new Section Emergency Coordinator, Rich Force, WB1ASL, who presented an overview of ARES and RACES in the state of New Hampshire.

Following the presentation president John called the business portion of the meeting to order. He declared the secretary’s report accepted as published.

Treasurer George, WA1DEI, reported a club balance of $2,748.85, and outlined the previous month’s revenues & expenditures as compared with the budget. On a motion by Don, KA1GOZ, seconded by Jack, the treasurer’s report was accepted as presented.

Membership coordinator Ed, K2TE, reported 122 current active members in the club. Activity coordinator Brooks, KC1PD, noted the club Christmas party was not far off (Dec. 6) and sent a sign-up sheet around to determine who was coming and what they would bring to the potluck supper. Bob, KD1AW, president of vice, reported the Novice/No-code Technician class was underway with 16 participants. He said he is considering another class, possibly an upgrade class, starting in the spring. Program coordinator Jack, WB4MDC, announced the November program would be presented by president John, WS1E, concerning the RF radiation limits now established by the FCC. December’s program would be awards and elections.

President John announced that Oct. 18 would be “moving day” at the Hollis Hilton, the day when the club’s Field Day equipment would be moved out of the hen house and to other locations yet to be determined. He noted work was continuing at efforts to acquire a used 40-foot box trailer for the storage of the club equipment.

Asked about the Field Day site for 1998, president John replied it will be at the current Hollis location. Under new business, treasurer George, WA1DEI, presented the proposed 1998 club budget to the membership. The budget will be included in the November NARC Bulletin. Jim, WW1Y, reported a proposal had been made to him for the acquisition of an Internet domain name for the club. This would eliminate the awkward URL for the club’s web pages, which he now manages. The proposed domain name would be n1fd.org.

On a motion by Don, KA1GOZ, seconded by Mary Jane, WA4WIJ, the club will acquire the N1FD domain name at a cost of $100 for the first two years and $50 each additional year. The motion carried. Jim, WW1Y, reported the next VE session would be in Salem Oct. 16 and the next Nashua session was set for Dec. 13.

Section Manager Al Shuman, N1FIK, announced the results of the NH Section Manager’s annual Field Day Award. There were seven participating clubs and the Great Bay Amateur Radio Association won first place. NARC came in seventh. He also announced that a photo of the NARC 1997 Field Day site would grace the cover of the November issues of QST, the issue in which the Field Day results are published. It appears that for an unprecedented third consecutive year, the Nashua Area Radio Club has had the highest overall score. A recommendation for T-shirt color, gold, was made by Mary Jane, WA4WIJ and approved by acclamation. Lettering is to be black. Color of the map was not decided. On a motion by Don, KA1GOZ, seconded by Henry, K1CII, the meeting was adjourned.
