Board meeting and the September 9th Club Meeting

Respectfully submitted by Don Dillaby, KA1GOZ

August 26th Bored meeting

President John, WS1E, opened the August meeting of the Nashua Area Radio Club Bored of Directors at 7:50PM local time.

Old Business:

Don, KA1GOZ, moved and Fletch, N1MEO, seconded a motion to approve the minutes of the previous meeting as published in the newsletter. The motion carried.

Treasurer George, WA1DEI, reported an estimated balance of $1,672.41 based upon an account balance of $1,870.04, $81.79 in the postal permit account and estimated expenses of $288.42.

Henry, K1CII, membership coordinator, reported no changes. The ARRL memberships obtained from the league in preparation for submission of the annual Affiliated club report, will be used to update the club database. It was noted that Vic Davis, AA1Y, a club founder, was no longer getting the newsletter and was not listed as a permanent member. George, WA1DEI moved, Joel, KD1ON, seconded a motion to recommend Vic Davis, AA1Y, to permanent membership as a founding member. The motion carried.

Joel, KD1ON, program coordinator, reported the September program would be presented by Joe Rich, N1OCS, who will discuss the XR0Y DXpedition to Easter Island. October’s meeting will be HF Packet modes, originally scheduled for August. APRS is the possible November program topic. Another possibility suggested by president John was one on the proposed FCC RF exposure regulations.

Fletch, N1MEO, president of vice and training coordinator, reported no activity in training at this time.

New Business:

Under new business, Don, KA1GOZ, noted that a $25 flower arrangement had been sent in the club’s name to the memorial service for Judy Graham, wife of Mike Graham, NE1V. On a motion by George, seconded by Joel, the expenditure of $25 for the flower arrangement was ratified. The motion carried. Don noted the annual report to the ARRL had gone out as did the Special Service Club application.

September 9th Club meeting

President of Vice Fletch, N1MEO, opened the September meeting of the Nashua Area Radio Club, with the traditional Classie Junque drawing. Winners (?) included: Jerry, N1WDV; Joel, KD1ON; Brian, KA1FQT; and Rich, W1HZN (He claimed it was not his entry!)

Following introductions, Joel, KD1ON, program coordinator, introduced Joe Rich, N1OCS, who presented a program about the XR0Y DXpedition to Easter Island.

Following the presentation, president of vice Fletch, N1MEO, opened the business portion of the meeting. Don, KA1GOZ, moved and Don, KA1T, seconded a motion to accept the secretary’s report as published in the newsletter. The motion carried.

Treasurer George, WA1DEI, reported a balance in the club treasury of $2,070.20. Mary Jane, WA4WIJ, moved and Colleen, N1HAJ, seconded a motion to accept the treasurer’s report as presented. The motion carried.

Gene, WA1UXA, (Yes he did actually show up!) activities coordinator, noted the Christmas party was fast approaching and asked for any ideas as to how to do it differently this year. He will report those ideas out at the October club meeting.

Joel, KD1ON, reported the October program would be HF packet modes. November was open, and awards and elections are scheduled for December.

Fletch reported on training, noting that he was attempting to set up some courses this fall. He is looking for two or three people to team teach a novice and technician course.

Under new business, Bill, WB1BRE, New England Division Director (ARRL), reported on the FCC’s RF safety report and orders and how it may affect the amateur radio operator. He also reported on legislation that is being put forth concerning letting local government enforce regulations concerning CB operations at levels above those authorized. He said the ARRL is concerned that if this occurs, local government enforcement agencies will not be able to distinguish between licensed and authorized amateur radio operation and citizen’s band operations at levels above those authorized. Concerning the little LEOS (Low Earth- Orbiting Satellites), he noted there was only a low level of activity within the working group responsible for that.

Don, KA1T, New England Division Director of Vice, gave an idea of some of the topics that may be touched upon in WARC 99. He said the CW requirement for amateur radio operators may be eliminated in the international treaty. He also noted that in response to that possibility, the ARRL board of directors was re-evaluating its position. Previously, the board had supported retaining the CW requirement, but it will now be revisited.

In other new business, Don, KA1GOZ, noted the action of the club bored of directors in recommending that Vic Davis, AA1Y, a founding member of the club, be given permanent membership. Don, KA1T, moved and Ken, WA1DXO, seconded a motion to give Vic Davis, AA1Y, permanent membership in the club. In other business, Ken Cable displayed an old Vibroplex key he had and was looking for assistance in getting it repaired.

Henry, K1CII, noted there was to be an eclipse of the moon on September 29 and suggested that following the weekly pizza night, a “moon party” could be held at the Field Day site shortly after 10 p.m.

Jim, WW1Y, noted there were VE exams scheduled for Nashua and Salem.

On a motion by Don, KA1GOZ, seconded by Joel, KD1ON, the meeting was adjourned.
