The meeting opened at 7:08 PM with Chairman Don Dillaby, KA1GOZ, Secretary Jim Denhup, N1NYG, Treasurer Jim Heedles, WW1Y, Programs Chris Garon, KA1SIE, Membership Joel Levin, KD1ON, and Activity Stu Sherman, N1STY.

Old Business:

Joel Levin, KD1ON, reported the club has 119 members: 72 regular, 33 family, 7 permanent, and 2 students. Anyone whose membership expired prior to August 1st is inactive and will not receive a Bulletin. His report was accepted as presented.

Jim Heedles, WW1Y, noted in his Treasurer's Report that the club's finances were as stated at the October meeting. The 1996 budget is in process and will be available at the November meeting. The Heedles/Garon motion to accept the Treasurer's Report was passed. Jim will take care of purchasing QSL cards to replace those obtained from Jim Belanger and to satisfy Field Day and Special Event needs.

Chris Garon, KA1SIE, reported that upcoming programs include: Dr. Dave Herrick, AB7Q, discussing wideband HF techniques and NARC officer nominations in November, Awards and elections in December, and Projects Night in January.

No Training Report at this meeting.

In his Activities Report, Stu Sherman, N1STY announced that preparations for the Christmas party on are underway. A Heedles/Sherman motion to raise the price of tickets to $7 was passed. The Heedles/Garon motion to allocate $220 for the Christmas Party door prizes was passed. This will consist of three $40 gift certificates to local restaurants and two $50 gift certificates: one from HRO and one from Rivendell Electronics. Chris will research what ham related items should be included for the annual $100 gift to the Nashua Library.

November 6th Club meeting

President Don Dillaby, KA1GOZ, started the meeting at 7:01 p.m. without the traditional Classie Junque drawings. Don continued with the call sign introduction to the initial 42 members and guests in attendance. Several more members/guests came in while the meeting was in process.

Jim Heedles, WW1Y, introduced our guest speaker Dr. Dave Herrick, AB7Q, who discussed wideband HF communications. Dave described the features of his recently designed CHESS radio. CHESS stands for Correlated Hopping Enhances Spread Spectrum. Correlated hopping refers to the fact that the hopping pattern itself, in both frequency and time, has built in redundancy. The radio transmitter changes frequency at 5,000 times per second. While hams have been trying to compress their transmissions into smaller and smaller bands of frequency, wideband HF uses 2 MHz of bandwidth in transmitting at 9,600 baud. The benefits of this large bandwidth is that someone trying to jam this signal needs large amounts of power over the entire bandwidth. The processing engine uses an FFT chip to break this bandwidth into 1000 2.5 KHz samples 10,000 times per second! The most interesting problems that had to be overcome were the effects of multi-path propagation. The differences in response time of signals also changed the order of signal reception. It was very difficult solving these problems, but Dave did and now his CHESS radio is entering production. Thanks Dave!

Club Business:

The Heedles/Wells motion to accept the Secretary's report as published was passed.

Jim Heedles, WW1Y, treasurer's report reporting a balance of $746.50 on October 31, 1995. Variances include: $225 in outstanding ad invoices, 21 memberships behind last year's projections, Christmas Party expenses have started, and newsletter expenses are still over budget due to paper and postal increases. The treasurer's report was accepted as presented. Copies of the 1996 preliminary budget were provided and described. The budget will be voted upon next month.

Joel Levin's, KD1ON, membership report noted that the NARC club currently has 125 members as of 11/5/95.

No Training Report was presented.

Stu Sherman's, N1STY, Activities Report announced that the preparations for the Christmas party are underway and an initial count of 1995 Field Day T-shirt requests was taken..

Chris Garon, KA1SIE, noted the upcoming programs for December and January.
